The short answer – smart, reliable, (very) experienced and a professional attitude.
We’re a happy band. Have you noticed how many bands have pictures show smoldering young lads, that look like they’ve just been told that Santa isn’t real.
We don’t do ‘sulky’.
We want you to have a good time.
It’s your wedding day after all so we want to enhance your day, lift your mood and fill the dance floor. Simples.
You’ll get the best 50s swinging dance music
We play songs that will get you and your guests dancing. From Ruth Brown, Big Joe Turner, LaVern Baker, Carl Perkins and many more. We even include some Imelda May songs that are always popular with dancers. Music for jiving, strolling, bopping and just having a good tim
And you do need an experienced band when you’re booking for a wedding. You’ll want us there on time, smartly dressed, with reliable equipment and the right attitude to fit in and help make your day special. That’s us. That’s what we do.
We can talk to you using plain English without resorting to text messages and we’re old enough to say out late (but don’t tell my wife I said that)
If you’ve searched for wedding bands around Derby, you’ll no doubt have seen websites for bands promoted by an agency, normally in London. Many bands around the country also do this because they’ll travel 200 miles if you’re willing to pay them to do so.
We’re here, on your doorstep, so no travel problems and no agency to inflate the fee with their own markup.
A venue will nearly always insist on a band’s equipment being correctly (PAT) tested.
But the main reason our equipment is tested is to ensure your safety and that of your guests
You want your guests to have a good time and you’ll not want them complaining to you about our volume.
So you tell us. Up, down, quieter or louder it’s your choice.
You’re in charge.
No band can play all night so you may want to consider a Disco as well.
We’ve worked with many discos over the years so if you want a dedicated Rock & Roll disco or a more general disco just ask. We know some of the best in the Derby area.
The Black Cat Boogie consists of five musicians who met by chance and who love seeing audiences enjoy themselves.

A lot of bands and acts advertise their services at Derby for your wedding, and the area offers a lot when it comes to wedding bands. Black Cat Boogie is one of the few wedding bands that offer such a comprehensive service:
How does hiring a five piece act for Derby wedding band differ from hiring a large party band for your reception? We appreciate you asking. Cost is one of the biggest differences. When it comes to hiring local bands in Derby for weddings, brides and grooms naturally want to provide their guests with the best live entertainment possible.
You might feel proud of being one step above the cheesy DJ your friend hired for their wedding music, but any of the Derby wedding bands that you are considering hiring will need to fit into your wedding entertainment budget.
An entertainment agency, which specializes in wedding entertainment, is a good place to start your search for how much a wedding band might charge. Wedding bands may look and sound great, but their price is going to be inflated.
We can be certain of this since any band you hire through an agency will be charged a commission. Just as on price comparison websites, you pay both the band and the booking agency. Booking agencies generally add between 15% and 20% to the bands’ fees, which can mean the difference between you staying within your budget or having to go over it.
If you hire a wedding band directly, you won’t have to pay a third party. Black Cat Boogie’s website is owned and operated by the band, so you don’t need to worry about additional fees when you hire us.
We offer great value for money, as a six piece outfit you get a lot of experience for your event.
We cover most of the East Midlands, but most of our bookings are in the Nottingham and Derby area.

Black Cat Boogie was formed as a Derby wedding band because its five-piece lineup of female vocals, guitar, bass, and drums offers a full live band sound without the need for additional musicians (just listen to our music to find out what we mean).
Our music selection is hand-picked to keep the dancefloor rocking all night long.
As a result, we are going to be an attractive proposition right from the beginning, unlike the larger wedding bands in Derby.
Have we mentioned hidden fees? When Black Cat Boogie provide you with a quote, there won’t be any extra charges, as some wedding bands in Derby charge on a sliding scale.
Here are some thoughts on music. During your wedding reception, we are pretty confident that all the music we perform will have all your guests dancing from the first song to the last.
As a side note, if your wedding venue Derby does not have a large (expensive) event band, that might cause problems. The Black Cat Boogie set up is extremely compact, and we can contract or expand to fit pretty much any performance space.
Every booking comes with:
The 2 hour live performance can be split into three formats to suit your preference (3x40m, 2x1hr, or 45m & 1hr15m).
Your guests and yourself will experience a night of live entertainment they will never forget no matter which option you choose.
Over the past few years, sound limiters have become more and more common, and all of our wedding bands use them. Let us know in your inquiry if your wedding venue has a sound limiter or in-house PA system and we will make sure the wedding band is suited for the venue.
Most wedding bands base their quotes on a standard arrival time of 5:30 pm/6 pm. We will be able to set up immediately if we are setting up in a different room than the meal and speeches. If that’s not possible, then we are going to wait until the speeches and meal are finished so we can avoid any interruptions
Please let us know your schedule so we can accommodate you. As a general rule, live sets for bands should not begin earlier than 6:30 pm or 8 pm.
We typically spend an hour setting up and doing the sound check.
Featuring fun, dynamic, energetic and experienced musicians who will keep the whole crowd dancing all night long! Let’s rock until everyone’s feet are on the ground!…
It’s just a matter of finding an electrical outlet for the band to plug in to and a venue for them to perform! The stage area for our five-piece band should be approximately 5×5 meters with a sheltered area
We normally perform for two hours, including two one-hour sets capped off with intermission music, but three 40-minute sets can also be arranged if preferred.
In order to minimize travel and accommodation expenses, it’s always a good idea to hire local bands for functions.
Take into consideration your wedding party’s vibe, the music you love, your range of guests, and your band’s repertoire. It’s all here!
Don’t wait to book tickets for our band if you’ve got your heart set on them. Dates can be booked years in advance in some cases.
Bands can extend the break to suit your evening schedule. A typical break between sets is 15-20 minutes for most bands.
To avoid having the band perform while your guests are eating, it may be best to keep the band’s performance between sets 30-40 minutes.
